Cytological preparations from protein-free fluids.
During an investigation into the forensic aspects of exfoliative cytology the problem arose of making stained preparations of a few cells in a large volume of protein-free fluid. The method described by Powell (1959), in which the cells are centrifuged on to " evo-stik "-coated rectangular coverslips suffers from two disadvantages. First a special centrifuge head has to be made, and secondly th...
متن کاملMolecular hybridization of radioactive DNA to the DNA of cytological preparations.
A method is presented for detecting the cellular location of specific DNA fractions. The technique involves the hybridization of a radioactive test DNA in solution to the stationary DNA of a cytological preparation. Sites of DNA binding are then detected by autoradiography. Experiments with DNA of the toad Xenopus are described.
متن کاملMethod for the removal of selected cells from cytological smear preparations for transmission electron microscopy.
The method described depends on fixing additional cytology smear preparations with glutaraldehyde to be used, if needed. Removal of cells from the slide makes use of partially polymerised resins in the usual way but a paper marker is used to localise the area in the resin block which contains the cells to be examined. Slides are placed in a freezing cabinet to facilitate easy separation of the ...
متن کاملIntegrated Microsystems for Molecular Pathology
We have integrated electronic, optical, magnetic, thermal and fluidic devices into systems to construct useful analysis tools. Over the past several years, we have developed soft lithography approaches to define microfluidic systems in which pico-Liter volumes can be manipulated. These fluidic delivery systems have more recently been integrated with optical and electronic devices. We have also ...
متن کاملUse of morphometry in cytological preparations for diagnosing follicular non-Hodgkin's lymphomas.
Morphometric techniques were applied to cytocentrifuge smears from 27 patients with histologically confirmed follicular non-Hodgkin's lymphoma to determine the usefulness of this method in diagnosis. Analysis of quantitative data confirmed that most subtypes were classified correctly on the basis of the proportion of large cells, small cleaved, and large non-cleaved cells, and nuclear, nucleola...
